Americans or other native English speakers looking to escape their home countries have the opportunity to travel to other countries and teach their native language. Many agencies place native speakers around the world and in particular destinations.

With nothing more than your native tongue you can likely teach in a foreign country. A TESL or TEFL certificate available online for about $300 and 120 hours of coursework will enhance and formalize your salary and respect as a teacher abroad.

A BA in any field is requested for many institutional teaching arrangements and recruitment agencies abroad, especially in Japan and Korea. Other nations are less stringent in their requirements and institutions and some private teaching positions do not require degrees. If you do have a BA, you will need to present it to get a working visa.

Knowledge of the native language in your students' country will ease your experience but is not necessary to have beforehand. Studying their language will become one of your main activities too. English is an international language spoken by many all over the world. About 375 million people speak English in China. That's more than all Americans. Immersing yourself in a foreign language is a good technique to learn.

If you can read this and have a dictionary, 3rd grade English textbook, pen, and notebook, you are ready to teach!
